all hardtops from those yers will fit, keep in mind the vents changed around 03. the earlier hardtops have vents down the side of the roof the later had the vents in the tailgate. i ran mine with soft doors, wasnt bad from memor, now got full doors though
Yes the half door w/soft uppers will work with a hardtop.
As far as all hard tops fit. Yes and No. There is a split year as tj_jockey said. If I remeber right it is 97 to 02 and then 03 to 06.
On the 97 to 02 the hardtop has vents on the sides just behind the side windows. On 03 to 06 the hardtop had no vents, But the 03 to 06 have a vent built into the tailgate.
If your jeep is a 03 to 06 the YES any hardtop will work. But if you have a 97 to 02 you'll need on with the vents in the top or you can put vents in the top.
The primary reason for the vents is to make sure that you don't blow out your windows when you slam your doors. But it also helps with air circulation.
One other little thing: you will have to cut a pin off of the top that is located near the rear of the door, if you buy a top that is 2003+.
The vents do help!!!!I have a newer style top on my 97 and have no vents in the gate or the top and the worse thing is the wistleing noise you get from runnimg thr blower motor on high. The next thing is the soft upper sliders poof out everytime you close the doors.....I have fot used to sliding the window open a little before exiting the Jeep but would like to find a set of vents for my top or one for the tail gate.
I've been searching craigslist and they range from $200 to $500 for a YJ and $300 to $1000 for a TJ. Average for a TJ is $700 to 800 on CL around here.
Is there really a need for a hard top. I had one for my YJ and hated taking it off every summer here in NJ. I ordered my 04 TY without one and ordered 1/2 doors and run all rear without any problems. Plus I saved the cost of the hard top.
I got mine for free from a friend cause she didn't want it and it had a branch that landed on the driverside rear corner (nothing a little fiberglassing didn't fix). The vents are actually exhausters (they let the air out of the jeep when the doors are closed). I like my hardtop in the winter due to living in oregon (I hate getting into the jeep and having the downpour from pooling on the roof). Its nice to have, I agree that removal and storage sucks but its worth it in my opinion. Oh and my half doors work fine on it...
I like my hard top in the winter a lot, keeps the heat in, its very quiet, I hear you get a mile or 2 better mpg, there not as easy to break into.
But it's great that you can pull that top off in the spring!!!
