Hardtop question! Need Help

I am buying a used 2005 hard top for a TJ. I have a 1999 TJ. I get different answers when I ask if it will fit. Jeep thinks it will not fit. Emphisis on "thinks".

But when I go to shop for a mopar hardtop they fit from 97 to 2006. I am suppose to pick it up on Saturday and it is a 3.5 hour drive. I don't really want to drive all that way to be disappointed.

Thanks in advance!

-T

97 to 06 should all be interchangeable.

Keep in mind though, IIRC, they did away with the venting in the hardtop in 03ish since they went to vents in the tailgate door. So on yours, you won't have vents in the tailgate and none in the hardtop. Only bad thing is you will occasionally have some whistling and the doors might be slightly harder to close.

Most people just crack a window slightly to combat the whistling noise in your situation.

It sounds like a BAD version of the Andy Griffith theme song.

Its not horrible.. Mostly noticeable if you have the air/defrost on. Just slightly annoying if you have the radio off.

I got an 06 with a 98 top. I have no fitment problems and of course vents in the top and tailgate but no noise issues or issues closing doors or talgate.

Do you think I could have custom vents cutout in my tail gate? Aren't they just slots in the 03s and beyond?

I found a "vented" hardtop too. Older and more money. Don't know if it would be a better choice.

From what the other members are saying there is a pressure difference when you don't have an air vent in the top and when you are driving or closing the doors you might notice the difference.

I guess I will see it first hand on Saturday when I get my top.
