Sounds to me like you just need to unbolt the hard top, lift it up slightly and then re-seat it back onto the tub... that it just sounds it got set onto the tub a bit crookedly.

Or the metal bracket that is screwed to his tub is bent down some. Is that what is stopping the window from closing all the way?

Oh wait a minute, DistortedTJ's question reminded me of something... is this hard top new to you and your TJ originally came with a soft top from the factory? If so, you'll need the hard top style rear brackets, the two that are screwed onto the tub on either side of the tailgate. They have a slightly different dimension than the brackets that come with the soft top. The hard top brackets will work ok with the soft top, just not the other way around.

Edit: If that's the case, let's trade brackets since I no longer have my hard top and would like to have the soft top style brackets back onto my TJ.

Soft top

How's your top holding up Jerry? I got one for sale and I'm just down the road from ya.

It's posted in the for sale thread now....

Jerry,

I saw your post about the clips for the hard/soft top that got me wondering. I have an '03 (bought new) with a hard top and it does not have those clips. Looking at this, if the clips were there for the hardtop, the rubber seal on the bottom of the glass would not seal against the tub because it would be stopped by the clip before it touches the tub.
Am I thinking right about this?

Hi,

Here's my problem. My soft top windows were stolen a month or so ago. So I bought new windows and a tailgate bar kit from BestTop. Worked fine. But I stupidly installed the BestTop brackets and threw away the brackets that came with my 04' Wrangler. So, now that winter is approaching, I put my hard top on last week. Well the rear window does not settle into the BestTop brackets, not even close. Now my rear window bounces around between the BestTop brackets and the tire. Very noisy and not good.

The brackets that came with my jeep worked fine for both the hard and soft top. I am a little bummed I threw them away. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a pair of the original Jeep style brackets? Thanks in advance!

At least on earlier TJs like my '97 is, the rubber seal is not on the rear window itself, it's on the long metal bracket that runs along the top of the tail gate. My hard top fit fine over the brackets, once I got the kind with the taller edge meant for the hard top. Maybe they changed all that in later TJs like your 2003?
