Head Gasket

Looks like I may need to do a head gasket on the 4.0l when I come home next month. Does anyone know if they recommend new head bolts when doing the job? Also what kind of lifespan does the timing chain set have, would it be worth changing on a motor with 135k on the clock?

You can reuse them if there is no paint mark on them. But I would replace them with new ARP bolts. They are not expensive. Also, get the head cleaned and checked from machine shop for cracks and straightness. They can also check and recommend if it needs a valve job.

Timing chain is considered lifetime part and will last you easily 200k+ miles. You don't have to remove the head to replace the timing chain so it could be done later on if needed.

What made you think it may need a head gasket??
