Head work 2.5

So im replacing my head since there was a unfixable stud hole. On the new head Im taking it to get cleaned up and checked. Is it necessary to replace all the valves? I plan on replacing the stem seals at least along with lifters more than likely, but didn't know if it was necessary to replace valves while the head was off already. Or would it even be necessary to lap the valves some? motor is a 2.5 off a 97 se.

It's 17 years old and I would not go that route without rebuilding the head top to bottom. That would be a lot of work only to find out you should have done it after all.

The shop will let you know if you need to replace any valves.I just put a used head on my sons and the shop used the old valves. They will clean it up and reseat all of the valves.Replace valve stem seals and make sure everything else is within tolerance.

Would lifters and pushrods really be a necessity to replace?

I didn't replace any on ours but the pushrods looked good we just cleaned them up.There was no ticking from the engine so I didn't replace the lifters.Make sure you keep everything in order so you can put everything back where it came out.My son's jeep is a 2000 with 120000 miles.

mine is a 97 with 121k. It had a very faint tick, but honestly I think it was a exhaust leak considering the last stud was stripped out

It probably was an exhaust leak if you had a stud missing. Also the shop will need the valve stem seals from your gasket kit.If you haven't gotten one yet get it from the shop.I purchased mine from them and saved about 40.00 bucks.

All good replies here! Any competent machine shop can fix you up....they have the equipment, guide mics, etc., to fix you up. It isn't a 'race' engine....it's a glorified tractor engine, so as long as they aren't out to get every penny they can from you, you'll be fine. I wouldn't even pull the lifters if you had no issues there.
