Okay, as a result of my 3" SL ,and 1" BL, and the subsequent 1" tcase drop (and probably b/c I had to bend my shifter as as a result of that) the inner shifter boot (mounted to plate inside console) was keeping me from shifting to 2, 4, R. While I had it at 4WP I asked them to take a look. Well, they did. And they sliced the shifter boot front to back. That in and of itself doesn't bother me. BUT the tranny and road heat that pumps through the console and into the cab is awful. It also leaves an opening for water/mud splashing up into the console. I installed heat sheild to all floorboards and inside console but didn't really help. So, anybody have any work-arounds for this? I'm really struggling for ideas on how to seal this area but I'm dealing with a shifter that will be moving so the remedy needs to be flexible. Let me hear some ideas guys. Thanks.
If I am understanding you right you could take an inner tube and cut a large square out right were the valve stem is and then cut the stem out because that is the tickest part of the tube leave the thick part around the base of the stem and put that over you shifter rod and use some adheseve to stick to floor pan and reinstall factory boot back over it.
Yeah the inner tube will stretch and give as the shifter moves. Not that the vinyl won't work because I am sure it will but the rubber will allow for more movement.
What a bunch of idiots. No way would I let them work on my Jeep again. Also I would go back and make them give you a shifter boot.
To fix this problem pull the shifter into the lower gears (2'nd, 4'th) and mark the spot where the shifter contacts the console. Now remove shifter, its only 1 torx bolt under a black cover and comes out very easy. Install shifter in vice, heat with torch at the marked spot, bend forward while heating. You should only have to bend it about 1/4". Let cool, Re-install and check for proper movement. You may have to do it a time or 2 to get it how you want it and it may take a bend in 2 different spots to get it perfect, but it will fix your problem. Then take the Jeep back and show the retards how to do it right. I have done this on 4 Jeeps that I have installed body lifts on and its worked perfectly every time.
Believe me, I wasn't very happy with them. I was about to demand a new one but realized I'd still be back where I started...which is the boot binding when shifting to 2/4/R.

Yes, this is exactly what I did b/c with the tcase and BL, the shifter would hit the dash in 1/3/5, so I had to bend it back at 2 points. Shifter has been great. Just the INNER boot part that is the issue.
It autozone and the local auto stores, they have boots like that in all sizes. Get a big booth like that and cut out the hole in that black piece and then put that boot in there.
Yes, although they changed slightly in 03, but yes you are correct.
I was going to order an OEM replacement online but they run around $40 shipped and I would still have to resolve the fact that it binds due to the BL/Tcase drop. I investigated it today and the entry hole for the shifter sits about 2" forward of the shifter when in N and WAY too far when in 2/4/R. So replacing it with OEM isn't an option.

you should be happy with a short shifter .. as those boots go... they have the universal ones that are almost as big as the metal plate on my 2nd pic. lol.. for sure you wont have binding with that but yes they have ones just a bit bigger than stock.. circle.. square.. whatever you see fits.
go to your local store and see what you find.
