It's finally cooled down just enough here in TX that I noticed when I have the a/c blowing up top, the floor vents are blowing hot air. WTF? I always thought my feet were pretty dang hot when I get home from work but since it's been so hot the past month I just attributed it to road heat and poor floor insulation. Now I know different. Anybody dealt w/this before? What gives?

I can tell you what helps:
a) I bought some 1-2 inch fiberglass at Home Depot and cut pieces to fit under all the mats. This only works if you don't fill them up with water - and since I have a hardtop and generally don't get the interior wet, no problem. This extra insulation extends throughout the tub.

b) I purchased 50' of 2" heavy-duty fiberglass exhaust wrap, used on marine engines (from a local marine supply), and a special fiber impregnanted plaster of paris. Then I wrapped the exhaust from the muffler to the catalytic converter, and covered the entire exhaust in 1/2" of plaster. Essentially this is what is done in many marine engine rooms. Because of my engine skid plate it is not exposed to water and has seemed to last, though could easily be recovered.

Before the foregoing, it was not possible to wear light shoes or tennis shoes while traveling for long periods. No problem now... You can google this issue and there are proprietary products which cost much more but do the same thing..

Well that makes an 05 Rubi, 06 Rubi, and my 04 Sahara that does this.
Like you both said, I don't know if this is just some stupid ill-concieved design or some sort of problem or malfunction. Guess if I ignore it long enough it will be winter and I won't complain then.

Every time I hear about you TJ guys having problems with cruise control fluid, blinker fluid, or A/C, my YJ looks better and better. All those damnfangled things that can go wrong with the new ones..............:flipoff:

Yea, the YJ A/C is a good setup, one you can remove and put away then put back on. My 69 willys wagon had one too, not attached to the heater box in any way shape or form but then again you don't have to remove the entire dash to get at the heater box on a yj or earlier.

I've had no such problems with mine. I think you guys just have hot feet. When I have it on def/floor setting, all the way cold, it's cold on both. Maybe my '98 is just made better than that newer stuff.

I know, this was not helpful, nor was it meant to be. I apologize.

Think I've come to conclusion that the AC is a patsy. I think the heat is coming out of the end of the console where its open-ended and this is just a few inches away from the lower AC vent. Apologies to my AC. This thread has now morphed into my other thread about the hot tranny. But no fear, problem diagnosed (I hope). When 4WP adjusted my shifter (post lift) they intentionally cut the lower boot that shields/blocks the opening in the body tub where the shifter comes through. Since then, every bit of heat off the tranny and road is blasting up into my console like a furnace.

Just bought big roll of heat barrier/insulation and going to glue to underside of tub around the tranny and firewall just like the unlimiteds have from the factory. Then need to find something to close off the hole or replace the lower boot. That's going to be the biggest problem b/c a stock lower boot is too short. Need to fab something up but coming up short on ideas and type of material.
