Ok just purchased a new to me 05, the Jeep,is as close to perfect as an 05 can be. Only 2 issues, the fan speed controlled is on high or low no inbetween. And the air flow is only on the defrost no matter where the dial. I know there is most likey an vacuum issue pertains to the air flow direction issue but will that cure the fan speed issue also.
Fan speed is probably the resistor. Search fan speed issues and you will see it. Cheap fix. I had the same issues with direction and my one linkage was broken on the valve.
Correct, two issues: fan speed problem is almost certainly due to a bad resistor pack, and the defrost only issue is most likely due to a disconnected or broken vacuum line. The vacuum line usually has a tendency to crack at or near the T fitting where it passes from the engine bay into the cabin through the firewall, located near the battery, though it may also have come disconnected at the intake manifold or at the vacuum reservoir.
Yes any part store just did mine got it from rock AUTO 25 dollars, and it is located under the dash glove box side. Has a cover over held on by 8 mms screws
Thanks for the advice, replaced the resistor and got all 4 fan speeds. Checked the vacuum lines and it wasn't attached to the engine. Vacuum barb coming off the engine was rusty so it had been off for a while. Wire brushed it down and put line back on and now it works great. The idle of the Jeep seems a bit lower now, do I have to reset the PCM or anything..
I replaced the resistor and mine still only works on low or hi. I was told it could be the blower connector needed to be cleaned, well did that and that didn't work either. bought new climate control and that didn't work either. I still only have low or hi. what do yall think it could be now??????
is there any way to test out the resistor outside of replacing it with a new one?
