Heater Control Knobs HOT?

2001 Sahara
What causes this?
I replaced all three switches about 2yrs ago when this was happening. Also replaced the dial-knobs with aftermarket metal ones.
Everything still works fine to this day but I know that the problem is slowly returning as the blower-door switch knob is almost too hot to touch sometimes. If it were OEM plastic, it would have melted again already.
I would like to fix this problem once and for all if anyone is familiar. I suspect an inferior resistor somewhere but don't know where to start looking. Hard to believe the system lets the knobs get that hot without blowing a fuse.
Hopefully this is a common problem and easy to diagnose.
Thanks!
