Unhappy Heater control problems. HELP!

I have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler X model. The knob that controls what vents where the air comes out of is stuck on foot and windshield defrost which means the a/c is constantly running because of the windshield defrost (I don't know why Jeep made it this way). Since this has happened my gas mileage has suffered. I was wondering what this part is called and if its actually the knob or something wrong with my a/c? If its the knob is it manual or electric? And is it at all possible to fix at home with ease? Any and all insight is greatly appreciated.

Pull the knob off an dsee if you can turn it w/o th eknob. The knob may be stripped. As to why the AC is on in defrost mode I answered it in another thread and there are specific reasons why it's like this.

It will, they are pressed on tight. Try pulling straight off with fingers or screwdrivers on EACH side.

Is the knob stuck (wont turn) or does nothing happen when you turn it? Mine was broken the second way, and I just replaced the vacuum switch tonight in about 30 min, for 35$ from the dealer. As for why the A/C is on, from what I understand, most cars turn on the AC when the defogger on to try and get moisture out of the air before it is blown on the windshield.

its not stuck. and it will turn off when i put it in the off position but no matter what other position i put it on it comes out defogger and floor combo. so i think its safe to rule out that a cable is busted because it still turns off. where is this vacuum switch located? and do i need to tear out the dash to get to it?

Vacumme leak.

Defrost is the Defalt posistion for just about ANY vehicle with a vaccume leak..
2 things....

First...check your vaccume lines under your hood going to your manifold/throttle body. (((common issue for them to crack or fall off)))

Second....it's the vaccume switch.
