Question Heater Controls Issue

I have a 2005 TJ in excellent condition with only 28,000. No modification in the dash has taken place. Here is my problem, when the fan nob is off, the fan runs on the lowest setting, when the fan nob is on the second setting, the fan motor is off, the fan speeds seems to be normal in the 3 and 4 position. The next thing is when adjusting the control nob for the vents, floor, dash or defrost, the air flow will not change locations. What's up with this ? As I mentioned, the TJ is like new inside.

Thanks for your time

I'm gonna number this 'cause I'm an engineer and that's what we do. Sorry if it looks like I'm being a jackass :-)

1) off us actually done by the vent control by rotating it all the way clockwise
2) your switch is melted, or most likely the fan resistor is out. Both are very common, easy & cheap to replace.
3) you have a vacuum leak causing the air vent issue, likely at the t-fitting in the engine compartment just before the line goes into the dash. If that isn't it, the vacuum switch on the dash is bad and will need to be replaced. It's a bit more expensive than the fan switch, but just as easy to replace.

Mine did the exact same thing. What I've had to replace is the fan control switch, not very expensive from local dealer. Is your knob ok?
seriously, my knobs that go to the switches wore out so it would turn, but the switch itself would not turn because the knob was rotating on the shaft. easy check is to pull them off and swap them around.
The AC/Heat control switch could have a bad connection. When I pulled mine apart, the connector to it was melted. I was able to repair it once fairly easy, the second time I had to completely remove the melted connector and mod it up.

The resistors as stated above is a common problem with Jeeps but I've not had to replace mine yet.

I had to replace 2 of my 3 knobs because the back's were broken and I had no control's at all ... I would start simple and pull the knobs to see if they are broken, if not, onto deeper issues.

ac/heater knobs

I just ordered a new set of factory knobs for the ac /heater panel on my 2000 wrangler for less than 4 bucks apiece on Amazon.com
I only had one broken but at that price I went ahead and replaced all three.

I also ordered a repair harness for the electrical connection on the zone control switch at the far right on the panel as the wires were cooked.I got the harness at the Jeep dealership, they have to order it as it is not in stock
