Heater issue

Ive got a 97 tj with the 2.5. The heat does not work. The blower works but only on high. The air will not get warm at all. The hoses going in and out of the heater core are both hot. I did a flush hoping that was it but it wasnt. Please any help is greatly appreciated! It was 15 degrees here this morning and no heater sucks!

Look under the dash as you move the temp slider back & forth to see if the cable is moving & if the arm it is connected to is moving the blend door. It sounds like the blend door is staying on the cold setting. Sometimes the cable comes off the arm or the arm breaks where it attaches to the door.

As for the blower only working on high, check the wiring at the resistor & the switches on the HVAC panel for burning or melting. The resistors are known to go bad & the high speed bypasses it so with only high speed working it is usually a bad resistor if the wiring & connectors are not showing signs of excessive heat.

The blend door is working properly. I will check the wires and see if thats it. the previous owner said he replaced the resistor but he could have been lieing.

OK, when you move the slider can you hear the blend door moving? If the arm is broken where it attaches to the door the arm moves but not the door. When both hoses are hot it indicates water is moving through the core. The only reason the air is not hot is that it is being directed around, not through the core.

The blend door is working just fine. When i swith it from cold back to hot the air is a tiny bit warmer then the cold side. Also it wont work on defrost. And sometimes when its on vent i can hear a flap close and the heat wont blow out of any of the vents.

When you say you flushed it did you flush the cooling system or only the heater core?
I flushed the cooling system with one of those prestone kits with the T in the heater hose and it did not flush the heater core. I had to take off the 2 heater core hoses at the water pump and thermostat and put a garden hose on each and flush both ways to get it flowing. Had no heat with the preston flush kit. After flushing core only heat works great.

I did the prestone kit. I will flush the core by itself and see if that does it.

How well did you get it to flow ? You might need to flush it again and again until you get a good flow. Might even need to use some cleaner in it to get all the goo out. Not uncommon for people to load a Jeep with stop leak as they are known to have radiator leaks and many people will just toss in some bars leak to seal up a leaky radiator. I had to flush my sons for a good 30 minutes alternating direction of the flow to get it all out .It had a leaky radiaor when we bought it and the po loaded it up with stop leak. I used some simple green. Just poured it into one of the hoses and raised hoses up so it wouldn't run out. Let is set for 30 minutes and then started flushing .It blows really hot now.
