Heater resister & harness

I think I found where the resistor is on my '02 X, someone sent me a diagram but was very hard to read. I removed the glove box, looks like it is directly behind the lower most portion of the dash below where the glove box would be. (the 2in strip of dash that runs at the bottom above the passengers shins) Do most people take out the whole dash in order to get access?

Also, I may need to replace the harness that goes to the control switch, has anyone done this? Is it very long and hard to install?

Thanks for any advise, I know there have been similar questions in the past, but I need to get this done. Quite cold these days.

I just had mine done at the Jeep dealer. My air conditioning and heater quit working. They took out the air conditioner/heater control head. It is in the back of that on a 98 TJ. It took them 4 hours. Total bill was $129.00 Apparently this is a pretty common problem on TJs, the parts man told me they keep a big supply in stock. I might try it myself if it quits again, I think I've figured how to get the bezel off of the dashboard. Although, $129, parts & labor, isn't bad.

Also, I forgot to add, the mechanic told me that the wires on the back of the control head were all loose. He recrimpted them so that they fit tighter. He said the loose wires may have been the cause of the resistor burning out.
