heater slides don't line up well?

ok... it heats great, but the slide arms don't seem to line up well, like I can't seem to get it to go all the way to off. the only time the fan stops blowing is when I put it on vent. that's great, but it's getting cold...so...also, heater and Defrost don't seem to be seperated no mater where I put the lever. I can feel it moving gates when I slide it but... ? also the cold hot lever will slide all the way to highest heat, but won't stay... is there a linkage or something that can be re-aligned ...
