Heatin up

Goin down the highway my jeep heats up past 210. All the fluids are good. Is there away i can keep it closer to 210?

Don't think that's a problem. Mine usually runs half way between 210 and the next mark at freeway speeds in hot weather, and I've never had a problem with it boiling over. You have to remember that your cooling system is under pressure, and the higher the pressure, the higher the boiling point of water. Take a look at your gauge and notice where the "hot" (red) section is.

It doesn't go past 210 to far. I just didn't know if it was gonna hurt it. And yes i got a fan shourd on it

problem is you can't tell crap from the gauge.

plug in a OBDII tool and monitor the real temp off the ECU, then report back exactly what those temps are.

Not unusual. Drove up to Central New Jersey between 65 and 70 mph and was above it for a bit. Its about 95 degrees here in Maryland with a head index hovering around 105 - 109 degrees. Just gotta make sure it doesn't go to much higher and don't try to over exert your engine. Otherwise, should be fine.

ODB2 scangauge (under $95 on eBay) also,
other ODB2 Scanner under $50.

Don't go by the dash gauge. I have a scanguage and mine normally runs at 197 under normal driving and will go to 215 or so in hot conditions on the highway. The dash gauge has pretty much agreeded however a couple weeks ago, I saw that it was way off as it got hotter. I was really blasting down the highway at 80 (and +) in 95 degree heat on a road trip and in the hills the temp on the scangaue read up to 230 at times. The dash gauge did not budge past much beyond the 210 mark

I run a mechanical water temp gauge off the return hose and usually run between 200-210 on the street. Offroad I usually don't break 220. I would recommend switching thermostats to the next lowest available, that is what I will be doing next, then also doing an e fan with 3 speeds and aluminum radiator.

A lower temp thermostat is not going to keep it cooler. The thermostat only set the lower limit. The stock thermostat is fully open at 195. Above that is dependent on how much heat your motor generates and how efficent the cooling system is.

that t stat will cause the t stat to open up earlier and it will run cooler. I lowered the one in my challenger from a 195 to a 180 and it runs at 195 when warm. The motor will typically operate 15-20 degrees hotter than the tstat setting.

You're missing the point on my fan. It will have an auto setting but when I'm out I frequent water crossings so it IS the best way for me. Will have off, auto, and a high low setting that I can leave on for as long as I want when the jeep is off. I pre run and go to the desert as well and leaving the fan running at all times is a must.

Edit: though I have heard talk of a cooler t stat not working well in the 4.0 I'll have to look more into this.

I have never understood why people want to leave the fan on while the engine is off. I've seen sport bike riders do this too. If the engine isn't on, the pump isn't pumping, therefore the coolant isn't circulating. So you're really wasting your time. You'd cool the engine off faster by just lifting the hood.

I lift the hood too, you underestimate the power of air circulation as well as the role of any fan cooling a 4.0

Yes it will open up earlier, but it is not going to stay any cooler. If with a 195, the engine get up to 210 beyond, how is stay cooler with a 180? It MAY run cooler when the ambient air is cooler but in hot conditions, it's going to do nothing for you.

Believe me I've played ther thermostat games with my modified 89 Mustang that I have owned since new. Cooler thermostant does not equal it ultimaetly running cooler (and I have a massive aluminum radiator). The solution was a Mark VIII fand and DCC controller.

T-STATS do not regulate Temp of coolant. Jeep is designed and when operating proper 210° to even 220° is completely normal. A 195° T-stat is what is designed to be in the jeep. If your running hot and doesn't hold at max 220° then you have a mechanical issu

Issue or you dont have correct mix of antifreeze / water. The T -stat. Simply BEGINS to open at whatever temp its set at. Entire system working proper PLUS proper flow of coolant and sufficient air being pulled threw the radiator is what cools. Better coolant flow and fan pulling air threw equals efficient cooling. A 180 T-stat will eventually force computer into enriched mode making the motor run poorly.
