Hello Everyone. I am the proud owner of a 2001 Automatic Jeep Wrangler TJ with air conditioning. It has 135,000 miles. The other day on the way home from work, I began to over heat. I pulled over and let it cool. I checked fluids and all appeared to be at normal range. I got it home and changed the thermostat and filled it back up with 50/50 mix. Started and took it for a drive. All good except no heat. The hot is blowing out cold air, colder than outside air. I checked the hoses to the heater core and they are not even warm. I read many threads on this site and followed recommendations. I reversed flushed and flushed the heater core, reversed flushed the whole cooling system until it was clear as glass. I have checked the actuator-it is working as it should, checked all fuses-good there, checked switches-all good. I am not overheating. I still have no heat, as a matter of fact, when I turn the heater switch to warm it is still air conditioning, just not super cold air conditioning. When I turn the heater switch to cool it is super max cold. The switch to the defrosters, vents, and heater works as far as changing the flow of air. I checked the air condition lines from the condenser and as I suspected they are icy whether I have the heat on or not, the air conditioner is engaged. No heat at all. I am not sure what else to do other than disconnect the air conditioning unit to see it that works. Anyone have thoughts on this? Thanks from Montana where winter lurks just around the bend.
Sounds more like a blend door issue. Follow the cable of your temp control to its end point connection. See if you can manually turn it while the air is on and see if the temp changes. If it does, then you probably have a broken blend door arm.
I was thinking blend door as well, but no matter the setting on controls, the hoses going to and from the heater core should always be hot.... Sound like multiple issues.
Blend door is working. While running the jeep, I disconnected one of the hoses from the heater core to the block and nothing came out. I then reconnected that hose and disconnected the hose from the water pump to the heater core. The flow was weak at best. My coolant was full when I started this test. I am guessing at this point, but my gut is telling me it is the water pump starting to fail. I will try that tomorrow. Thanks for the knowledge. I will let you know tomorrow if that was the issue.
Here's the update. I took out the old water heater and it was definitely about to go. Replaced it, filled up on fluid and now I have heat again. I haven't experienced a water heater that partially worked before. That was a new learning experience. Thanks everyone for your help.
