HELP...bad clutch?

Hello ..new poster, long time reader...I have been in the market for a second jeep currently have an 04 X with lots of mods. Anyway found a jeep today but the clutch felt very loose and the gears would not engage until the pedal was almost fully released. The owner also told me that she rarely uses first gear and the jeep starts fine in second gear.??..it is a 2000 sport with 55k mi on it. Are these signs of a bad clutch? please respond if you can help

Thanks

I almost never use first gear unless I'm crawling.

My 2000's clutch feels looser than my 2006's does. It also seems (now that I think about it) that most of the "work" the clutch did was in the first 2 inches of pressing/releasing.

If it's not grinding/smoking and the jeep can giddyup from a dead start all the way thru the gears, I'd say all is well.
