HELP two problems in drivetrain...

Hi
Thank you in advance for your help on this matter.
In my 03 tj 4.0 two things are happening.
first: at about 50mph-80mph there is an incredile vibration that comes up through the shifter. i can rule out alignment and wheel balancing. its loud and almost violent.
second
when in neutral at a stop if i release the clutch i hear something start to grind under the car -- not like a gear grinding but like a constant noise of like 2 things constantly grinding. push the clutch back in and it stops.
any idea on either or both of these?
i love my jeep and i want to help it out here...
THanks!

if you release the clutch in neutral some parts in the tranny will begin to move. the grinding is normal. don´t worry about it.

does only the shifter vibrate/shake at 50-80 mph?
or also the steering wheel and the whole front?
does it make a noise when it vibrates/shakes?

Is there any type of lift on the Jeep? Either suspenion or body? Also the vibration does it happen when going from 50 to 80 all the time or when you are traveling between those speeds and not increaseing speed. Hm did that read right?

Sounds exactly like my issue. Although I don't have the violence at high speed. The exact problem you described above was just diagnosed on my TJ as worn/bad input-shaft bearings. It was originally mis-diagnosed a few times as the throw-out bearing. It can be heard anytime the clutch is not engaged. I didn't hear it while driving at first, but before long I could hear it in all gears as any speed. And logically, the higher rpm's your turning, the faster, louder, and possibly, more "violent" it will sound. In the last 3 weeks mine has worsened quite a bit and is scheduled for replacement this week.
