Hesitating

So having a normal day driving my 02 tj, and it starts hesitating on me. Then the check engine light came on. I then came to a stop light, and while in neutral my rpm's rev to 2000. It did the hesitation off and on for the next ten min of driving along with the high rpm's. Then it stopped. I drove it again later on, and the same stuff happened. Anyone have suggestions of what this could be?

Sounds like something is getting stuck. Check the throttle position sensor for free movement.

Check all vaccum lines in engine bay... research to see if Jeeps have idle air control valves... same thing happend to me on a Honda vehicle because of Idle air control valve. Easy change on throttle body.
