Hi...please help

Hi everybody...I've been lurking here for a little while, but came up with an issue I could use some superior knowledge with. I recently got a 97 with the 2.5 and auto. After driving about a half hour to work one day without any problems and letting it sit for about 9 hours, I went to drive home and not only is it idling close to 2k rpm and wanting to take off if Im not standing on the brake, but the brake pedal is far stiffer than normal. There was what looked like a vacum line that had been connecting what the service manual calls the fuel damper located on the fuel rail to the brake cylinder that had come disconnected, but reconnecting this did nothing. Anyone have any ideas what parts I should be trying to replace, or is this not even a DIY for a semi-able shadetree? Thanks for any advice.

It sounds like a vacuum issue. Maybe the reason the line came off is that it is cracked and worn. I'd try replacing the entire line and check all the other ones.
