Okay, so I've decided to start looking for a high pinion D30 front axle out of a Cherokee to put in my "99" Wrangler. My plan is to find one, then have a local gear shop install new 4.56 gears and an ARB locker before I install it in my Jeep.
Just after some cursory reading online, I've found that some years of Cherokees had CV joints in the D30's, and some had split axles on the passenger side. My question then is, are the axle housings basically the same, and could I pretty much use any of them if I planned on using new chrome molly axles, and u-joints, and the unit bearings/hubs off my existing axles?
Or...would I be better off looking for a specific year/model?
