Hole behind fender flare?

I was taking off the small flare in the front and noticed a hole about 2'' in diameter with a clear film over it. I have no idea what it is for? please fill me in.

Nothing...just a hold point used in the factory processing of the vehicle. There is no purpose for it after.

So any ideas on how to cover it up if i want to go to tube fenders? I thought about tread plate, or rock sliders that mount to the body, but then will i run into rust issues down the road?

Leave the plastic film over it. Cover it with a rocker guard. The flares aren't exactly what you'd call water/mud tight...

Put a 3 inch wide grippy tape on it,then when she's on her side you'll have a good foothold when standing on it and raising your beer in triumph!(saw a jeep with grip tape on the bottom rocker a couple days ago!).
