Horn Stuck

Over the last couple of months my horn has been getting stuck on when I use it - a good thump normally sorted the problem so it wasn't too bad. However it's started to do funny things like engage at night! (note no alarm).

I'm thinking I need to get to the horn switch with some WD 40. However the steering wheel housing for the horn looks sealed and the airbag is a bit of a worry. Is this one for the dealer ?

Cheers

you could have a bad horn diaphragm. it's in between the air bag and the air bag cover. they're a bit touchy anyway, but that would be my guess.

Swap the horn relay first, that's the easiest and most likely problem unless your steering wheel has been exposed to the elements so it could be corroded inside. IIRC, the horn relay is located inside the Power Distribution Center on the passenger-side fenderwell inside the engine compartment.

i agree, do the easy basics first, after that, don't remove air bag without disconncting battery first. you don't have to be scared of it, just don't go pokin wires, or cutting wires. just disconnect battery, and wait about 10 mins. different systems store battery power for short time.

I've got a feeling it's the steering wheel as hitting it feels like it frees it and definately stops the noise. Yes my car got flooded a couple of months ago. I'll give the relay a shot first anyhow.

Also, my airbag light comes on now and again and I see that is a possible terminal corrosion issue - So can I take the wheel off with no worries of the airbag unit activating

Horn Switch

Guys,

I was just about to take my steering wheel off when I noted this:
http://www.vintagemusicprojects.com/...J98/etj_8g.pdf

"The horn switch is only serviced as a part of the
airbag module trim cover. If the horn switch should
fail, or if the airbag is deployed, the airbag module
trim cover and horn switch must be replaced as a
unit"

does this sound right - I got a feeling the airbag module trim cover is going to be expensive!

Also does anyone know this part number? Cheers

that sounds about right because the airbag and horn switch are one unit. i used to work at an airbag assembly plant and they sold the cover, horn switch, and airbag as one unit. you might be able to buy the cover and horn switch as one unit.
