I am interested in purchasing a 2001 60th Anniversary and am curious about the underbody rust. The current owner indicated that some portions of the frame were rusted and have been repaired. This would be my first Jeep. Thanks!
Maybe you could take it to a frame shop for a professional evaluation if everything else is in good shape and the price is low enough. Looks like it has a Dana 44 at least. A frame expert might tell you to pass also.
It's all about the the exchange of money for goods. He wants $XXXX for his product, you see $XXXX for the product.
Looks like the product has issues and your $XXXX should show that. If the price is right, do it. Just realize you will have to put more $XXX into it.
Me, Banditt, Tippie and ole Heep a long!
RIP Banditt 3/86 - 11/01
This is what I initially thought when I looked at it. The welding looks very amateurish also.
it needs a frame swap. use that as a negotiating point. since the vehicle isn't safe to drive and is very close to totaled/junkyard/part out you may be able to get it for a good price. if the mileage is low enough and you can get a good enough deal on it, and the rest of the vehicle is in good shape, you may come out ahead after you are done with the frame swap and repairing the rotted components.
if you don't have the heavy duty tools or capability to do a full frame swap, then run forest run.
