How do you get the stupid hood latches off?

I just got some tube fenders and I need to transfer the hood latches from my old fenders to the tube ones, but when I try to remove the nut, the whole bolt inside the latch just spins! I can't hold the bolt still because it's inside the bottom part of the latch. How the heck am I supposed to remove these things? Anybody done this before?

Toughest bolt to get off of jeep period. Here's what I did...
You have to remove the entire plastic around the bolt.
1friend to clamp down on top
2nd to clamp on 1st wrench to add pressure on square bolt top
Me with socket underneath and it broke in half once got traction.
Drivers was only one that game me trouble

Well I was planning on reusing them, but if I'm gonna have to basically rip them apart I'll just get some new ones. Like I said, I need the entire thing to move over to my tube fenders.

My driver's side latch came off just fine, but the passenger's side came off in about 6 pieces. Ordered a new one from eBay. I think I paid $19 shipped.

-EDIT- Which tube fenders did you buy?

Yep, purchase a new set for how cheap they are. Plus they'll look odd next to new tube fenders since they're going to be faded in comparison.
