How tight?

how tight do we adjust the serpentine belt?

you dont, on the TJ there is a built in tensioner. only need to replace the belt when it starts cracking.

so that it has about 1/2" of downward play when you push on it if I recall.

If your TJ is old enough to have a screw-adjustment for the serpentine belt like my '97 has, 4Jeepn is right on. Adjust it so the belt will deflect about 1/2" when you push hard on it with your thumb at its widest unsupported spot.

If you have a newer TJ, they come with spring loaded belt tensioners so there is no adjustment needed.
