how to check fuel pressure regulator

Hello i have a question on how to check your fuel pressure regulator. I just purchased a new unit as I have been having long starts and from what I read am pretty sure it is the pressure regulator. From my understanding this unit is just a check valve? Correct me if im wronge. Anyways I just got the unit today and can blow air in both directions through it Confused.

If you can blow air both directions through your new check valve, it is defective. My first replacement check valve had that problem too, I had to return it and get another. Make sure the new one doesn't allow you to blow air backwards through it.

Were is the fule pressure regulator located? Do I need to drop the tank to replace it? I have a 2000 Wrangler

It is located in the tank with the fuel pump, you will need to drop the tank to get the fuel pump assembly out of the top of the tank

Correction! Hehehe..... If you have a body lift such as I do you can change it in like 15 min without dropping the tank. Also check eBaymotors for your reg, I got mine for like 30 bucks or so. Which is slot cheaper than other places. Works great to

While the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, the fuel pressure regulator is mounted on top of the fuel pump which places it outside of (on top of) the fuel tank.

This is where the fuel pressure regulator resides on top of the fuel tank...

That is not correct. The FPR is essentially a relief valve. The "slow start" condition is a result of the relief valve leaking and bypassing fuel back to the tank.

That is not a sign of a problem. It's a problem if you can pass air from the discharge tube thru the relief port, with the supply tube blocked.
