How to prime oil pump?

My new oil pump is already on the jeep. How do i prime it? Ive read about on older models wit a distributor cap to take that off and use the drill to rotate it. But i dont have a distributor. I have an 06. What are my options for priming my oil pump now that its already on the jeep? Ive read something about being able to do it via the oil filter.

Personally I would disconnect the ignition coil ( pull the plug) and bump the starter. Since no load is on the engine you should be fine. Turn the key for ten secs and done. Plug the ignition coil back In and turn it on. Doing it this way will also help find big leaks.

Please note. If this is a fresh, new build that has never had oil in the engine don't do it. If this engine has had oil in it you'll be fine.

Remove the oil pump drive assembly (where the distributor used to be) now called the OPDA. Chuck something like a long screwdriver with the handle cut off into a drill. With the drill set for normal drilling (not reverse) insert the flat blade end into the oil pump slot & run the drill. As pressure builds you will hear & feel the drill bog down somewhat, you now have oil pressure. The pump is now primed & the filter is filled.
