HP D30 swap question - lower control arms

OK - I got my HP D30 in over the weekend. But I have one thing I need to address still. On my lower control arms, when the axle is at full droop, the shock mounts hit the lower control arms and limit how far I can go.

My plan is to just take my grinder and cut a notch out for the control arm to go up into. This would not affect the shock mounting in anyway and would actually bring this piece to looking closer to what the TJ D30 looked like.

I was curious if anyone else has run into a similar issue. And if so - how did anyone else attack that same issue.

Thanks,

Eric

I know a guy running a HP D30 in a TJ. I THINK he got relocation mounts, but I'm not 100%.

Where did you get it? An XJ or JK?

Got it from an XJ.

Just to give more information - I am putting in a Currie 4" lift at the same time.

If its just the shock mount.. and it will not weaken anything else then I don't see any issues.

I don't see anything wrong with chopping a mount either. I say do it.

Congratulations on getting one of those. From what I hear from guys around here they're tough to get.

Toss in some shafts, cut the mounts, lock it up, and rock and roll

The shafts are sitting on the floor of the garage next to both ARBs!

It would fix that - but then what would fix having a long arm kit? Stayed short arm for a reason and I am good with that.
