I got the sparrows, and they are angry!

I noticed some squeeking coming from underneath my 2000 TJ. I read about angry sparrows on here so I went out and disconnected the front drive shaft and took her for a spin. No squeeking. So how do I go about fixing this problem. I read Stu's jeep wepsite but I'm still confused and defiantly don't know what I need to fix the sparrows. Stu said something about a ball centering kit and other stuff, do I need all that?

I'm looking for a detailed explanation with lots of pictures so my slow mind can learn.

You indeed do need the centering ball, I just rebuilt mine about 5 months ago, a little aggravating, you'll need a vice and 4 hands

Get a ball joint press from an auto parts store. Looks like a giant c-clamp. Replace all ujoints and ball centering section since the new one uses a better design and is greasable. Hardest part is getting that outside ujoint back in straight since the centering section has a spring that wants to push the new ujoint out of alignment as you try to reinstall it. Patience and another set of hands helps a lot. I stood my driveshaft up on end and held pressure with one hand while turning the press with the other. New ujoints slide in easier than old ones come out so you can press the new joint in using one hand on the press.

As for installing ujoints, take the caps off and place one inside the ear and then press the ujoint into it and go a little too far. Then put the other cap in the other ear and press the ujoint into it from the opposite side. Make sure the needle bearings don't fall out or get pinched. Usually they don't since the grease holds them in place pretty good.

Or find your local driveshaft shop and bring all the parts to them. Shouldn't cost much more than $70 and they may even check the balance for you...
