I Messed Up My Door Locks. Can They Be Fixed?

I decided to repaint my door handles & locks today. I glass beaded everything to get the old paint off, primed & painted the locks & handles, reassembled everything, & now I can't turn the key in the locks. I thought there might be some glass beads in them, so I took them off & blew them out with compressed air, same thing. I sprayed the hell out of them with Liquid Wrench (which stripped off the paint I just applied hours earlier), same thing. I picked at the wafers with a screwdriver to make sure they moved & weren't painted fast, same thing. The key goes all the way in, but won't turn at all. What the hell did I do to them? Can I repair them or must I take them to a locksmith?

Jeep doors have locks???

Ok, seriously, I don't have an answer to your question so instead, I'll pose one of my own? Do you run a soft top (like in your avatar)? If you don't have a hard top, why would you ever lock your doors?

My philosophy is: I'd rather have someone go through the door than through the window/roof. A razor knife is better than any key to a thief going after something in your jeep......

I never leave anything in my Jeep that is worth steeling or that I can't replace. Simple rule, it's worked for me so far.

Good luck.

Yes, my avatar is the picture of mine with half doors. I lock my doors all the time. Last weekend I had the top down, & I locked the doors when I parked it at Lowes. I just talked to a locksmith, & he said that I did everything that he would have done. He said those locks are not serviceable. They can not be taken apart. If flushing them out with brake cleaner & air pressure doesn't work, they will need to be replaced. I flushed them both repeatedly with Liquid Wrench, compressed air & brake cleaner & they still do not turn. It's like I'm putting the wrong key in it. I should have saved myself the agrivation & taped up the damn things before I glass beaded them. At least new locks are not that expensive. He said about $30 or $40 for a pair & hey could key them to work with my current key.Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

Second not locking my doors.... because I would alson rather someone just open my door and take what they want rather then ruin my top. also in two years of leaving my doors unlocked or off I have only had my phone charger stolen.

Save your money for something else. I run a soft top and run topless all summer. I haven't locked a door since the day I bought my YJ. Tops are too expensive.
