I NEED HELP WITH MY TJ...serpentine belt, battery, mudding.

I went wheelin in my 1998 tj the other day and it was still stock height and a lot of mud got underneath the hood ever since then my serpentine belt screams pretty loud and while im driving my check guages light comes on and my battery guage is all the way down to the red line but it doesnt die out on me and if i shut it off and turn it back on the guage is back up to 14 volts anyone have any clue why it would be doing this???? also i was wondering if there is anything i can do to prevent so much mud from gettting under the hood??

I'm guessing either your belt is slipping or your alternator is on its way out...

And if you wanna keep mud out from under your hood, you gotta stay out of the mud...if mud is your thing, that's cool...but keep in mind that mudding a vehicle is one of the easiest ways to tear it up. That stuff gets EVERYWHERE and wears everything out. My dad always told me if I want to find out what all is capable of squeaking and creaking on my vehicle, drive it into the mud and I'll know real quickly. He wasn't kidding. I had a four-wheeler that I used in mud frequently (instead of using my daily driver). That mud really tore it up...I was always fixing/replacing something.

So it's just something to keep in mind if you're gonna drive in a lot of mud...mudder or reliable DD, it's hard to have the same vehicle for both.

Take a bucket of warm water or a spray bottle of water and clean all of the pully's on the front of the motor thoroughly on the inside twords the motor especially. Then run it for a bit and see if it quiets down, repeat if necessary then wd40 after cleaning. mud can cause all kinds of electrical connections to get caked with mud and lose connection as well.

Get it to a coin op car wash or hose and clean that thing up. The mud shouldn't be left on the engine or in the compartment. The problem is not your belt, I'm willing to bet your alternator is just about finished or one of your pulleys, maybe both. Alternators/pulleys/AC comp. + water/mud = DOOM. Here's another equation to keep in mind when you decide you want to hit the mud, MUD = MONEY.
