Idle Chirp???

1997 Wrangler Sport 4.0

I have a funny "chirp" or squeal at idle up to about 2000 rms. I replaced the belt and idler pully. A friend thinks its in the valve train. Any suggestions?

to check if its the pullies, take the belt off and start it to see if it goes away. Thats the easiest test you could do I`d say. Dont run it for to long because nothing is spinning including the water pump, but it`d be enough to check to see if its a pully.

that would determine if its belt driven or not.

if it is, start spinning the pullies by hand seeing if one feels rough or loose. water pump bearings go bad, also check for fluids leaking onto the belt, power steering or coolant.
