Idle problem

So my 99 wrangler 4.0 is idling funny could this be because of my exhaust leak and it throws a check engine light but I got it reset and it's fine but this problem started when I was on the highway. Te code was p0121 what should I do.

if im not mistaken, that is the code for your TPS (throttle position sensor) it can get damaged if you go offroad and mud can get in it. . . they are about 30 bucks at any auto parts store and pretty easy to fix yourself

P0121 - Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Range/Performance Problem

Same code I had. Replaced the TPS, problem went away.

Read this thread:

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/help-check-engine-light-and-spudders-66495.html

Tells you where it's located and how to replace.

Then replace your TPS sensor with a Borg Warner from O'reilly's for about $56, or NAPA. Just make sure it has a lifetime warranty.

It's on the throttle body, just below where the air intake comes in, closest to the firewall. This image is for a 2.5l but it's the same as a 4.0 for your purposes. Two T20 screws.

While you're at it, go ahead and take that throttle body off and clean it really good with some carb cleaner and a rag..it should be spotless and shiny inside. Then soak it down with SeaFoam Deep Creep to lube everything up, wipe off the excess, reinstall.

Any time! That TPS problem was annoying - weird idle rpms ranging from 500 to 2,500, stuttered, etc. Let us know if that fixes it
