Idle Question???

I have a 06 Rubicon Tj. Every time I am slowing down, go into neutral and come to a stop my idle will only go down to 1.5K RPMs. I always have to blip the gas so the idle will return to normal range around 750 rpms. Does anyone know what could cause this or how to fix it?

i had this in my old TJ with manual tranny only when the engine was still cold. when i stopped it idled at 1200-1500 rpm and after 10-15 seconds it want down to about 750.

now with my auto tranny i dont have this. when i stop it idles every time at about 750 or 850 (with A/C on).
why do you shift the auto tranny to N when you stop?
on that way your tranny wears out faster.

Not sure what you mean. I have a 6 speed manual. When I come to a stop (sitting at a light or something) and I have the trans. in N my idle will only drop down to like 1.5K. This is all the time. Not just at start up. ive checked the throttle body and is seems to return closed all the way. Any ideas?

I had the problem of my idle going up and down and not dropping at some points. it would sit around 2.5k at times then drop to 1.5k then drop to normal range only to go back up again. some of the guys here told me to take off the IAC and clean it really good with throttle body cleaner and stick it back on and see if that helps. I did just that and it worked for around a week or so then started doing it again so I just replaced my Idle Air Control valve, which seems to have worked. maybe your solution maybe not but you can try to at least clean it and see.

why would you want to replace it instead of cleaning it..

older hondas were notorious for this.. taking the throttle body off and cleaning it with a wire brush helps also..

iacv from dealer is pricey.. in the 200 dollar range.. try cleaning it first and save the 200 for other mods.
