ignition and dash light problem

hey i just purchase my first jeep today and im excited and all, but it does have a problem.

when i put the key in and turn it, the car starts and everything but all of the dash lights stay on. and while the engine is running i can remove my key with ease and it will still be running

the guy who sold it to me told me that it was the ignition problem and that it can be fix by buying a new switch. do you guys think this would fix it?

please let me know
thanks

It will fix the key being removed w/o turning off jeep problem...however the lights on, I'm unsure of. I'd replace it for the key issue alone...can you start it w/o the key? sometimes you can if the lock mech is broken.

i havent tried to start it without the key.
but im more worry about the check lights on the dash.
the guy said he has check everything and everything is fine, it was just the ignition that is causing the lights to come on

Which lights?

If its the Check engine light, take it to autozone, and let them run the codes. there is a trouble code causing this...its not the ignition switch.
