I ordered Rancho shocks from rockauto and i didnt know which length mine were, i have a 2006 golden eagle and it had 2 listings. one was for 2 1/2 in raised front height or 3 1/2 in raised front front height. I went with the 3 1/2 raised height hoping i chose correct, i didnt know if it makes much difference. I know my shock thats came out had 102k miles on them, but these Ranchos feel really stiff. also i feel every bump on the road if theres a pothole or something its very pronounced. Could i have screwed up? could i have needed the 2 1/2 in raised front height so that i had more travel in the shock so i have a softer ride? could i know need to break these in? my jeep has stock springs, 31 in a/t tires. if i screwed up is there a way to compensate? longer springs? spacers? i'm at a loss, i dont know. my brother told me that most ppl dont like the ride of them because they arent gas charged like most shocks are. it feels like my race car with my shocks set to stiff, little to no rebound.
Well I did an online search and it confirms my problem, I bought ones that are too long. Now the question how I compensate? Can I just buy a longer spring and replace them to make up the difference? I don't think rockauto would take these back cause these have been installed but I have to look into it.
Shocks for 3.5" of lift installed with stock height springs, my guess is that the shocks are bottoming out after very little up travel. This would cause every road bump to feel very pronounced. Shocks will probably be damaged soon, if not already. You'll want to replace them with factory height. To "compensate" for them is not really the right approach, basically building your lift around shocks that may/may not be what you want anyway. I'd start with rockauto, they may swap them out. You won't know until you ask.
I tried, no returns or exchanges on installed parts. I only drove 1 day on them. I see they sell spacers, I emailed rancho to see if they would help me any short of buying a longer spring which is cheap than another set of shocks, considering I also have 102k miles on the original springs
You will need more than springs or spacers to do a 3"+ lift. If you hadn't planned on lifting, you would be better off to try recover some of your $'s selling them off on CL, and buying the correct ones.
It wasn't planned on, I screwed up ordering, I took the description as the sitting height. I looked at the catalog and since it only said heavy duty, i didnt take the info as replacements for somebody who already had a 2.5 lift or 3.5 lift kit installed. Will have to make due how I will, jeeps getting sold soon anyhow. cheap gabriels and sell the ranchos to somebody, they only cost 130$ shipped in the end. Sucks having a bad day reading
