Hey guys need help or suggestions on a problem with my 99 sport. My interior dome light is always on. The #4 fuse for the door switches has been pulled. The dimmer on the light switch dims the instrument cluster. You can feel it click to turn the dome light on and off. But the light stas on always. I pulled the bulbs to keep my battery from going dead. Suggestions?
I only have this problem when I take the doors off. I have a 2000 sport. So that might be a problem. Maybe your door isn't pushing the button that turns the light off. That's the only thing I can come up with.
Does it go off if you push in the door switch? If so then I would say wrong fuse. I have read that it is the #10 for some jeeps, but don't quote me on that.
I dbl checked myself the fuse for the door defeat switch is pulled. Which is what they say to do when you remove the doors. But the bulbs still continue to burn. Ignition is off and they are still on. I am thinking the switch, but the fact the dimmer still works has me puzzled
I had the same problem. I was over at my dads one day and he just bent me a piece of metal that covered the door switch and went down about 1" into the plastic piece on the floor. It fits really really snug and doesn't move and now if i need light I just turn on the dome lights. It helps alot with the doors off and doesn't mess up the door closing either....
That fuse disables the headlight reminder and the dome light(to where it works w/ dimmer switch only)
I'm not sure why anyone would bypass it, so maybe it was unintentional, I'm not sure....but this seems like the most likely cause in my simple brain. Unless of course you pulled the wrong fuse.
Might take a look at the door sensors...since one of them is telling the light that it needs to be on...it should turn off after ~10 mins regardless - to avoid draining battery.
Let me add it has not always been like this. I got the jeep with 36,ooo miles on her back in '02 She has 159,000 now. The dome light problem started back last summer. It was not always like this. I have pulled the fuse before when I took my doors off and the light went out as it was supposed too.
Maybe a dumb idea, but did you check to make sure the turn signal stalk twist switch wasn't turned on? That turns on the interior lights even if the fuse is pulled.
Edit: duh - never mind - I just re-read your original post and saw that you checked that. Oh well - ya got me then.
