A few months ago I traded in my JK for an '06 TJ Rubicon. The first time I went off roading and used 4 low I noticed a "clicking" noise - but it's only really apparent in 4 low. I've been out on the trails a few times since then and the noise continues. Earlier this week I took my Rubicon into the Jeep dealership and they told me that the noise was "normal"
Really?
Has anyone heard of this? Sure, there's going to be noises but this noise sounds as if something is loose in the transfer case or something... My JK never made any noises in 4 low and I never had any issues.
My TJ makes no loud clicking noises in 4lo...the only difference between 4hi and 4lo is that I can drive about 30 mph (estimated top speed) in 4lo and I can go 55+ in 4hi. No difference in noise.
If it is clicking there is something wrong! Almost sounds like it might not be going all the way in 4 wheel drive but a enough to turn the wheels I had a Z71 that did that and it was not going all the way in gear! Just a idea
It's an Athens, Georgia based (via Muscle Shoals, Alabama) Southern Rock band. Check them out on youtube or something. Album wise, "Decoration Day" and "The Dirty South" are my personal favorites.
Thanks for the responses.... Here's a video of me driving down a large rock in Sedona. If you put the volume all the way up then you can hear the clicking noise, especially once I get to the bottom.
That is definately not normal. It sounds like my old LockRite locker when making sharp turns. Can you feel the click in the floor board, steering wheel, pedals, or transmission/transfer case shifters? Does it do it with or without the lockers? Have you tried adjusting your shifter linkage?
Sounds like the rear locker is engaging and disengaging. Check the airlines to it and also if you have messed with the rear diff cover fill plug...loosen it.
Would that engage even though I didn't use the lockers? Keep in mind, I'm not very knowledgable at all with mechanics
