Is it the clutch... or transmission?

Hey everyone,

I just got my Jeep and have been driving it for 3 days. 3 DAYS!!

I was heading down the highway when I needed to fix my soft top. After taking it out of 5th (manual) and coasting down the off ramp, I could not get it back into any gear. After stopping, it finally made it into 1st but would roll forward with the clutch pressed fully to the floor. I can now move it into gears without using the clutch (while engine is off) and the pedal feels soft. I drove it over 200 miles over the last two days and it didn't give me any problems, no signs !

Its a 98' Sahara 4.0 5 speed. 100,569 miles, trans fluid looks perfect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

jed

could be one of 2 things, either your clutch disc is bad or your slave clyinder is bad sounds more like the slave clyinder may be bad but before you check the major stuff start with the easiest thing and chack the clutch fluid and the clutch lines

Bone dry, cant believe it. Just paid $80 for an oil change and lube and they cant check my fluids. It could have failed internally while i was driving as well. I'll check tomorrow during daylight to see if i spot a leak and be prepared to replace the master cylinder if it comes to that. Thanks fellas, i'll let you know how it turns out.
