Is The Front DS Long Enough?

Hello.

In December i want to install longer CAs in the right length for my 4.5" lift and a +4" real flat TC plate.
Do you know if the front DS is long enough for that?

Thanks!

With 4.5" springs and a truly flat skid you might need to lengthen your front driveshaft. However you might need to get it all done first and see how much slip you are going to show after it's all said and done before you get the shaft extended.

What is the stock TJ front shaft typically good up to? lift height wise?

Can I extend my front driveshaft? I thought that I would need a new one.

Last weekend I lifted the tranny up to try out the skid TC plates frame. The DS was long enough for that. But with longer CAs it should be 1-1.5" longer and I forgot to try out if it´s long enough.

My problem is, that this TJ is my only car. And after installing the CAs, SYE and flat TC skid I need about a week to shorten and balance a DS for the rear.
If the front DS also doesn´t fit I have no car for this time and I need it every day.

btw. that are the plans for the new skid:

i run the 5.5 RE coils and custom longarms.......until i went with a hp 44 i ran the stock front driveshaft......if anybody has ever ran the re coils then they know that the lift is much bigger than 5.5 inches.........if you are unable to run the the stock length driveshaft then just dont put it back in and keep it in 2h........if the rear is what you are worried about then call tom woods they will send you the one you want.........if your using your local ds shop like i would then u will be waiting.
p.s. rent an economy car for the week

they don´t have enough experience with the 06 TJ with the 4spd auto tranny and a rear D44. i´ll have to measure the needed DS length after the SYE install.
that´s why i better shorten a front XJ DS for the rear. that also saves some money.

how high are the 5.5" R springs in real?

i have 4.5" lift + an about 4.5" higher TC plate

The front DS is long enough for a 4.5" lift, that's what I'm running. It was even long enough when I used to run a 5.5" lift. The front driveshaft is so much longer than the rear that it is much less affected by suspension lift height than the rear driveshaft is.

Jerry, do you think it's long enough for 4.5" springs and then also the true flat TCase skid that Nicolas plans on building? That's where I was a bit skeptical.

That will be about 4.5" (springs) + 4.5" (flat TC skid) + longer CAs than stock.
Is the front DS really long enough for that?

I dunno guys but I have the RE 4.5" long-arm lift which is more like 5 to 5.5" plus a flat TC skidplate and the stock front DS has been fine. The rear DS had to be made longer of course.

I would tend to agree with you. I've got 2" flatter than stock with 6" LA setup also with 14" of travel up front and I've never had a problem either. I've just never seen a TJ with a stock shaft and a skid even with the frame rails.
