jeep completely dies

Hello all,
I have a 04 TJ that loses all electrical power at odd times, most often after coming to a complete stop. No lights, nothing. The tach and speedometer flip back and forth when the driver door is opened. When I press down on the brake, the gauges all move to the right toward the high numbers. When I try to engage the caution flashers, all I get is a buzzing sound. If I pull the MSFW fuse, all noise stops and the Jeep is still dead. I would appreciate as much help as possible.

sounds like a alternator problem.. if your tach.. filip back and fourth while in motion.. I would check that first.

If its an 04 it should still be under warranty, unless the mileage is too much.

Unfortunately for me, there is not a warranty. Also, when the Jeep is running, there is nothing to indicate that there is a problem until all of a sudden the Jeep dies. It has happened twice when I had recently pulled up to stop lights.

When whatever is causing me to ground out, lets go, and I am able to start the Jeep, that battery gets everything going and indicates all up round.

I had similar problems with my F-250, it turned out to be a loose ground.

Did you happen to buy this from a dealer recently? Did you happen to get a carfax report? I'd hate to see you have gotten some kind of salvage titled junker that obviously wasn't fixed right and was misrepresented..

I bought the Jeep used in CA in 2004 and have had no troubles with it until this problem showed up. It has been shipped to HI and back and was working fine until a couple of months ago.

to get codes, you can turn the key to on off 3 or 4 times, not taking it all the way to the start postion, This should give a read out on the dash.
