Jeep No spark

For the past 6 months my 97 Jeep Sahara has not been able to produce a spark. I tried everything but nothing.... the jeep one day just coasted to a stop and hasn't started since.

WHile traveliing at 75mph on highway 684 the engine just cuts out and smoke begins to rise from underneath the car at he cat area.

Any Ideas?

Now, I might have read this wrong, but from what I can understand, I think you blew your engine.

Sounds electrical. Will the ignition turn over?

Do the all other electrical components seem to be working and have power?
Just to give a short list to check, I'm sure there are other possibilities...
Crankshaft Position Sensor (PCM)
Camshaft Position Sensor (CMS)
and check the plugs to the sensors
Coil

I would hook a scan tool to it and read the codes first

Color of smoke?

White...water/cooling issues
Blue....Oil burning
Black...Carbon/not burning fuel

Purple...You ran over Barney and he is stuck under there near the exhaust.

Checked Crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, scan tool showed no codes, no current to the coil.

Smoke didn't come out of the tail pipe but from the excessive heat surrounding the cat and muffler which melted coatings surrounding the chassis and frame. Never saw such a thing...... almost as if there was an exhaust blockage. That would not eliminate spark.

If you don't have spark. Start back tracking.

Check to see if the coil is bad. Check to see if your cap and rotor are fouled or bad. Check for a broken wire at the coil.

As for excessive heat. The Cat heats up to burn unburned fuel coming out of your engine. If you did lose spark like it appears you did...you sent all of the fuel to a hot cat which then burnt up in the exhaust/cat area. That explains the heat. But a clogged cat can also produce a lot of heat also.

My jeep was sitting for about 2 weeks, I tried starting but it woundn't turn over. Every time I let go of the key it woud stop trying to turn over completelly. I founf myself holding the key in the run position almost forcing it to run or turn over. Eventually after about a half hour it turned over. I let it run for a while it was good, but never drove it. I tried a few days later and got nothing. Just some clicking by the starter relay box but not even a click to the staarter. I replaced the battery, starter, and starter relay...and still got nothing. When I say nothing I mean no sounds at all really, just some clicking by the starter relay box. ANY IDEAS???
Maybe the ignition coil?
