Jeep with a skip

Hello....first post. great site.

Just bought a 1998 Wrangler 2.5. I am trying to self-diagnose a small issue:

It has a small skip or sputter when climbing a hill. It's hard to explain, but it feels like it's backing up or missing just a little. It's not very noticable but I would like to fix it.

I've own about 10 jeeps in my life and the last one that did this, new plugs and wires fixed the problem. In this case, the previous owner said he put new plugs and wires on it just before I bought it. I can tell the dist. cap is fairly new, but I have not checked the gap or type of plugs yet. Before I started the process, I was going to get a few suggestions or ideas.

I have not changed the gas from 87 to prem., but that is not what if feels like.

I did a search but could not find exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks in advance, jed
