Unhappy Jeep won't start electrical issues.

Hey everyone I'm hoping that someone can help me here. I went out this morning to start my jeep but found some issues.

-When I first went to start it all the electrical went a little nuts and than nothing happened like maybe something was shorted out. But than when I turned the ignition to off and removed my key the temp. and oil press gauges started to move and they're was a clicking noise. Now when I try to start it either nothing happens or sometimes all the gauges will move a little bit and that same clicking noise happens.

Anyone know what this could be other than a short somewhere?

Start with your battery...be sure it is strong, well charged with clean terminals..

The very first thing that should always be done in this situation is to physically remove both battery connectors and wire brush the battery posts and insides of the connectors. There are wire battery brushes made specifically for this in any auto parts tores. Loose/corroded battery connectors are a very common cause of your exact symptoms. If this doesn't help, have the battery load tested at a battery shop.

Question

I took the battery to pepboys and they checked it for me. It wouldn't really hold a charge so I bought a new one. However, I'm still having the same problems. I checked over the wires I could see and disconnected my off road lights but nothing is working. Could it be a starter issue? If I'm taking resistance readings on my starter does anyone know what they should read?

That doesn't sound like the starter. It's getting a little power, but not enough to crank the engine. Take a look at your cables and wires starting at the battery and follow them to see if there are any damaged areas.

Turn your headlights on and then while you watch what they do, have someone try to start the Jeep. If the headlights dim significantly or shut off when the ignition switch is turned to the Start position, you've got a bad battery connection or bad battery cable. If the headlights stay at full brightness when the ignition switch is in the Start position, the battery and battery connections are fine which indicates you've got a bad ignition switch, starter relay, starter solenoid, or starter problem. Personally, as before, I suspect a bad battery connection or bad battery cable.
