Hello everybody:

I just bought a 2006 TJ in Dubai, where I am living. Right now it is completely stock, 48K miles, full service history. I plan on doing some upgrades, and I have some pictures of the look I want to achieve. I would appreciate some help regarding what equipment I should install.

- Lift ? I was thinking in 2.5". Brand? I want comfort. Car will be used mainly on the road.
- Rims ? What size should I go for ?
- Tires ? 32? 11.5? Brand ?

The green car is the one i bought, and the black one with soft is the look I want to achieve

Thanks !!!

There's not much difference to the "look" you are after. Looks to me like the soft top jeep has 31" tires on ~2.5" over stock height springs. Edit: (Now that I saw the swing away carrier I'd agree that it's closer to 33" tires on a ~3-4" lift, the brake light threw me a little). The brand and model of the tire is listed on the sidewall in big white letters: BFG all-terrain. The wheels are painted or coated steel wheels. I usually wouldn't recommend those wheels and tires but as you are simply trying to achieve a "look" I assume it's not going to see much in the way of off-road that it can't handle. Wheel size would be best at 15x8, in my opinion.

What axles, gearing, and transmission type do you have?

Thanks for your answers. I don't know the gearings, it is a stock Sahara 2006 automatic
I will be using it as a second car, and the odd trip to the desert with the family, so I was more concerned with comfort and cost rather than with performance.
I understand the maximum I can lift it without changing the shafts is 3"?

You have 3.73 gearing on a D44 rear axle. With that 42rle transmission anything over 31" tires will need a regear to even be tolerable. I have the same setup and I can hardly stand it with 31" tires.

...running 33 10.50s w/4.56 gears, auto.
I was planning on going with 4.88 for my 33" tires with the 42rle transmission but due to more recent developments in the gearing industry I'm seriously considering 5.13's.

Doesn't 4.56 seem really undergeared to you with 33" tires and the 42rle automatic transmission?

I don't really know what my Dana rear is geared to, looked on my differential for any codes, didn't find any, my 65th is not that fast, at 1900 rpm she runs at 60, 1600 rpm runs at 55, any higher rpm than that, the fuel milage goes out the window 6 speed inline 6cylinder 4.0. Oversize tires, a radar cop clocked me 2 miles an hour under what I,was indicating on the panel, never in a hurry anyway.

I am pretty satisfied with what I have, just had all the differentials lube changed the drain looked real good, a little metal in the transmission and transfer case, ferris and non, kinda looked little specks of gold, really normal wear, after 90.000 miles. Shifts really smooth now, 6 speed, reverse was tight, glad I had it serviced, trying to remember the additive he put in the transmission, and transfer case, but it made a world of difference, in shifting.

Thanks again for your help:

I will probably go for OME 2" + a 1.25" body lift. Rims will be Cragar Soft 8 with 4 backspacing. I'd really love to put on some BFG K02 33/12.5 or 33 duratracs, but I don't want to spend the money on regearing, so I guess I'll have to stick with 32s. Problem is with 32s there are not too many tire options.

Ok, so there has been a last minute change of plans. I gave a deposit for that car on the pics, and was going to pick it up today, but when it was under inspection, they found it had a gasket seal leak, and the owner offered me to give my deposit back.
I just bought another one, with a terra flex 3" lift, new Cooper AT3 in 32/11.5/15. (I will get the invoices from the shop where it was done, to see exactly what they did)
The car had a case drop, but it has some vibration in first gear (an automatic), so should I go for a slip yoke eliminator? Vibrations are not severe, they are small but noticeable. Am I risking breaking something if I use the car in this condition?
It also has a vibration on the driving wheel from 40-50 mph, which disappears when traveling faster.
Thanks !

Thanks. I will change the lift kit for OME 2" plus a 1.25 bodylift, and leave the transfer case drop it has right now. I drove an OME lifted TJ this morning, and it was like night and day, so smooth...
I also saw a leak next to the transmission, could it be because of the lift?
This is the leak I found

When you switch to the 2" OME springs, you should remove the t-case drop.

Hey UFO, ya you might be right, like Red something, I bet it was some synthech, or something like that, when it was cold out she would groull in first and second, been cold and that growling is gone, can't get over how smooth she shifts. Really like my jeep, big improvement over my GPW, kinda wish I had not sold her, but I just couldn't afford two, to run maintain and store, under shelter, leaving them out in the weather sure does a job on them, been looking at that Kevlar coating, no rust right now, I rode in a 2003 TJ ,it's kinda like spray on bed liner, but it has fine strips of Kevlar in it. Man that TJ was so quiet, it was a hard top and it was even coated with Kevlar, takes 2 weeks to do the process, they take the jeep apart. Replace all rubber parts, included in the price, if it's something more, or a suspension part that is badly worn .They will consult the customer on what to do. That would be extra, I know rod ends and suspensions parts can be pricy, they look at the jeep first evaluate it, and quote a price to do the coating. To me the word (Kevlar) sounds pricy.
