Just what axle is it

Just how do you tell what Axle is in your Jeep ? Yes I,v read the steel plug thing . I have an 04 - X 5 speed and it has steel plugs ??

Then look at the shape of the diff along with the steel plug and you should be able to tell what axle it is as well as the gearing on the little metal tag at the 9:00 position on rear. I would be surprised if you have the 44 up front too.

You have a dana 30 front and if round plastic plug on rear axle dana 35 and metal square plug on diff cover dana 44.

Do a search, I know yesterday I was reading a thread with some great pictures on this very subject. I too will be VERY surprised if you have D44's in an X.

As said above, you definitely have a Dana 30 up front.

Below are the two axle types you can have in the rear. The first is a Dana 35c, the second is the stronger Dana 44.

So, you're saying that this poster should do the search as verses the person asking the question? As the saying goes "God helps those that help themselves". They could do something to help find the answer themselves being that it comes up at least once a week on this fine forum.
