Knock knock who's there...

I've got this knock, sounds and feels like somebody knocking on the floorboard around my feet. I have no vibrations, no change in handling. It won't do it when its cold, or in four wheel drive. It started out as only one or two knocks when I was turning at low speed, but has progressively gotten worse, where now I'll hear and feel it even over bumps, accel, decel, turning...nothing seems to be loose or hitting the frame, so I'm at a loss. Front drive shaft is brand new, and it did it even when i had no front shaft. My initial thought was the tranny mount, but I don't really no how to tell if one is warn, and I'd think I'd feel something throught he shifter, which I do not. Any ideas...thanks guys.

may be the xfer case lever knocking against the body tub.

i hear a rattling down there when i accelerate from 2nd at a very low speed (almost stopped) and sometimes a knocking sound. when i push the lever down into 2H and hold it, the sound seems to stop (this is while i'm already in 2H).

check around underneath to see if you see any shiny/dented spots on either the shifter mechanism or the body. shiny metal underneath usually indicates rubbing of some sort.

X2, that'd be my first suspicion too.

You can get a parts kit from Chrysler that will take care of this issue. It's part number 1-05014148 AA. It's pretty cheap and takes maybe 30 minutes to install. Took care of my "knocking."

Forgot to add to my last post...this issue is very common with TJ's. So much so that Chrysler issued a tech bulletin: TSB 21-09-98 Jul 98

I actually have this problem also. Started after the lift. I will go see if the dealer has one of these kits..........My torque shaft doesnt have a boot on it at all right now.

Sorry to sound like such a noob, but which part of my transfer linkage is the "torque shaft?"

And, I could not find a reference to that part number. Is it similiar to the Advance Adapters transfer case bracket? Or?

Thanks.

I think my original suspicion about the tranny mount was right...on the way home the knock turned into a steady drum roll. Got underneath and tried to move the tranny back and fourth...made the noise, soI'll replace it and see what happens.
