hey lads.. thought Id ask for ideas on a noise Ive got in the TJ
when accellerating it makes a knocking sound.. it sound like its in the driveline to me as its in sync with the engine.. it when your taking off mainly.
I cant really hear it when Im on the hwy at all.
when in low range it was as I was slowing down or speeding up as well.
I know its a vague description but its the best I can do..
any suggestions would be appreciated
thanks
H.G
nope.. no codes what so ever
greased up my drive line and front end the tother day as well.
it also has a squeal to it.. kinda like canarys chattering
Ive tried spraying the diff seals arouund the drive shafts with no sucess so Im out of ideas..
I wish I was more mechanically minded

With the sound you are describing it is definitely the ujoints probably in your rear shaft. I am assuming with your rig you have a CV style rear driveshaft right? If so start with the CV. It is probably time for a rebuild.
oh yeah....angry birds in the driveline is almost always(if not always) u-joints. i'll be rebuilding my own front driveshaft this coming week or so and will be posting the write-up on Jeep Article, so be sure to look for that later. It's not really hard, just need a vise and a couple hand tools.
yep it is the front UJ.. as loose as a babys rattle
will be repairing on monday morning..
glad it never buggered up when I was giving the old jeep some stick..
just had 4:56 ratios with ARB air lockers installed and put on a K&N FIPK thingo..
you know how it is.. ya gotta drive it like ya stole it when you add new bits hehe
Just sounds like he got a case of the "mightaswells" to me... Well, since I have to regear it anyway, I mightaswell put in ARB's instead of buying a new open carrier, they aren't going to charge me for the labor... That's how I ended up with ARB's in my last rig!
shhhhh andy.. its a secret.
Ive done alot of things I havent posted on ausjeep hehe.
and jeeperman you are 100% correct they said I would save about $1000 if I did it all in one hit. otherwise its 2x labour which is the biggest killer
might as well syndrome. its a curse and a blessing all in one hit
hehe stu,... yep and I must take the time to thank you for your continuing business
it makes it all worth while
