Knocking Underneath 2000 TJ (Automatic)

I've got 190K miles on my Jeep. No significant engine problems in the 10+ years I've had it.
But there is a knocking noise coming from underneath. It's not too loud when idle, but gets louder and accelerates as I accelerate. It still runs smooth and feel nothing out of the ordinary. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to "under the hood" stuff. The guy at NTB without looking at it said it sounds like a rod knock in the engine. So basically, he said it needs a new engine. My girlfriend's father who is a mechanic is looking at it next week and says it could be a rod, but it doesn't sound consistent with a rod knock and it has him somewhat stumped. Keeping my fingers crossed it's not the engine. Read a couple of things that said it could be something in the transmission. Just trying to research what it could possibly be for when we get in there. There's a video below of what it sounds like. Thanks for any help.

Check your flex plate to torque converter bolts, if there loose it will sound just like a rod knock, I had this happen on my 2000 4.0 XJ.

Probably a spider from one of those webs, they can get ruthless!

Seriously though, have you ruled out an exhaust leak? I didn't listen all the way through because you can't get very directional over the internet, but it was one of my thoughts.

I was thinking exhaust leak also, but it sounds just a bit to metallic to be exhaust, couple things for the OP to check though before pulling the pan and checking for a bad rod

Those damn spiders did all that in a day. If I go in there and find a nest I'm just selling the thing. I can't handle spiders. Thanks. Ill check the exhaust.

I am having this problem with my 07 JKU and I believe it is a rod. Happened after I went overdue for my oil change. Very important to change the oil on the due date. $25 or $600+ you take the pick.

Good idea.
Change your oil. It might just fix your problem.
Sounds to me that it could be a lifter making that noise.

If your oil needs changing, and you put it off, your lifters can get clogged, making it hard to get the oil back up to the top of the engine.

Pull each plug wire, one at a time and see if the noise diminishes in any particular cylinder. If it does, it's most likely a rod bearing in that cylinder, but could also be a wrist pin in that cylinder. How's your oil pressure?

Yu might also wanna check your flex plate bolts, loose bolts sound just like a rod knock. Had this issue with my 2000 XJ with 4.0 auto

2000 tj doesn't have plug wires, so that would be kinda hard. I'd start with checking the converter to flexplate nuts. Mine were loose when I first bought it. On a side note, mine does have a slight knocking sound, not too loud. I think it may be coming from the flexplate. It did it before and after my stroker. I think it might be the cooler lines rattling against the pan

I've always been curious why they didn't use coil rails on the 2000 4cyls?
